A pediatric dentist focuses on oral health and the unique needs of young people. They limit their practice to exclusively treating children. There are many significant differences between an adult's and a child's anatomy, physiology and psychology. A pediatric dentist has the special oral care knowledge required to meet the dental needs of infants, children and adolescents, as well as special needs patients.
After completing four years of dental school, two to three additional years of training are required to become a pediatric dentist. This specialized program prepares pediatric dentists to handle the unique needs of infants, children, adolescents and special needs patients.

Dr. Tsang studied Microbiology before she obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of British Columbia. After successfully completed her four-year dental degree, Dr. Tsang entered a one-year Pediatric Dental Residency Training Program at British Columbia's Children's Hospital. She subsequently proceeded to complete a two-year pediatric dentistry specialty training program at the University of California, Los Angeles, California, USA. During her specialty training, she was also enrolled in the graduate programs in the School of Dentistry where she completed her PhD. degree in oral biology. Her thesis was focused on the understanding the disease process of cavity-causing bacteria, Stretococcus mutans.
Dr. Tsang is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (F.R.C.D.) in Pediatric Dentistry and a licensed Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry in BC. The Royal College of Dentists of Canada is an organization which ensures high standards of specialization in the dental profession and recognizes properly trained dental specialists through comprehensive qualifying exams.
Outside of the office, Dr. Tsang is a clinical assistant professor of Faculty of Dentistry who is actively engaged in teaching dental students at the University of British Columbia and general practice residents at Vancouver General Hospital and British Columbia's Children's Hospital. She is also the president of the BC Pediatric Dentistry Study Club which organizes continuing education courses for pediatric dentists in British Columbia. You may also find Dr. Tsang organizing weekly activities as a leader for Girl Guides of Canada. With Dr. Tsang's love for working with children and a gentle chair-side manner, she hopes to establish a positive relationship with her patients, parents and the community.
