“What do we think of Living Assistance Services? At first, when a critical health crisis erupted in our family, we did not know which way to turn. Finally, we found Living Assistance Services. It had the answers which we so urgently needed in the form of expert front-line personal support workers whom we were able to select individually from its vast reservoir of talent. They were backed up by a pleasant, efficient office staff that also truly cared. What a blessing! Our hats are off to LAS!” - G.H.
“Thank you for your tenacious efforts on my behalf. I’m glad to have Jill back already. I need her help badly and she is lovely to have around.” - J. S.
“Joy was superb! Very observant, smart, caring person. Always working beyond the call of duty and was great at anticipating our needs. She was always a step ahead. Her heart is truly in the job! I couldn’t have asked anyone better! She gets my highest recommendation. Thank you.” - M.C.
“You can use Myra as your model caregiver. She is perceptive, enterprising, energetic and cooperative. She has a keen sense of humor and was cheerful and resourceful…further, I felt I could trust her completely. I think she operates at a high ethical level, and a high level of competence.” - Mrs. B.
Our smaller size also helps us to be very personal in our service and always in touch with our clients as, for example, we are available to respond to our seniors and their families on the telephone at any time, day or night, 24/7. As a result, many of our seniors and their families and their caregivers create close relationships and remain together not for days or weeks but for months and years.
Living Assistance Services would like to introduce your family and you to a wonderful, warm, professional personal caregiver at a very affordable cost to help you participate actively and safely in your day-to-day life.
Our experience has shown that, once we have arranged the best caregiver for your aging loved one, he, or she, will be actually quite relieved, also still feeling importantly little loss of independence; as well, your family’s and your own heightened anxiety and worry about your aging family member will be greatly relieved! And, family members and you will have the time and energy to do what they want with far less anxiety about caring for loved ones.
Arranging for elder home care services starts with a phone call to arrange a free consultation and assessment. It’s the most efficient and reliable way to ascertain your elderly care needs professionally. Then, we select the best caregivers for your senior, based upon his or her needs and specific situation. And, if it’s preferred by the elderly senior and his/her family, Living Assistance Services will introduce to you to up to three caregivers at the beginning so that your loved one and you can choose the one that best suits your own requirements and specific situation. Your own choice, then, becomes the genesis of a much more personal relationship. As a result, many of our seniors and caregivers tend to remain together not for days or weeks but for months and years. During this time, we will be always in touch with you and our caregiver to ensure that everyone is happy.

Caregiving for the elderly is a special focus for Brian Porter, the Director and Owner of Living Assistance Services - York & Simcoe Region. Like many Simcoe seniors, Brian especially loves life on, or near, the water and, importantly, for the elderly in Simcoe, the region recognizes the idea of an Age-Friendly Community in support of its aging population.
Brian has had a successful and lengthy career in the service sector, first as a high school teacher and head of schools and later as the Director of fundraising and the Director of Alumni Relations in several universities. Effective marketing, business development and public and community relations have been important functions in each of his roles, which have included schools and universities in Canada, Europe, and the United Kingdom. In Canada, Brian has also served as a director of theatre boards in Calgary and Winnipeg.
Brian’s mission is crystal clear, “At Living Assistance Services, we provide outstanding, safe, trusted, compassionate care for seniors where they want to be as they grow older–happily at home, thereby stressing personalized service from health/care assessments, to care planning, to caregiver services in the Simcoe County.”
Brian knows it isn't easy to invite a stranger into your home. Therefore, his commitment at Living Assistance Services is to introduce your family and you to a wonderful personal caregiver or private nurse as safely and happily as possible. Brian currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Orpheus Choir and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Downtown Toronto. Brian holds three university degrees from Carleton University, McGill University and the University of Toronto. As the population ages in Canada and the ‘grey tsunami’ becomes very real, Brian wants to make it much easier for people to be able to grow older happily and safely with comfort and dignity where they really want to be – in their own homes!
